Rhodes Attractions

Rhodes once boasted one of the seven wonders of the ancient world – the Colossus of Rhodes. The giant bronze statue that once stood sentinel over Rhodes Harbour is now a distant memory, the island still offers plenty of other things to see and do. The resorts of Rhodes City or Faliraki promise an eclectic array of bars and restaurants, as well as beaches that are perfectly equipped for watersports and other outdoor activities. For a quieter break, discover the crystal clear waters and unspoiled beaches tucked between the craggy coves and whitewashed villages.

Areas & Neighbourhoods in Rhodes Island

Rhodes — The capital blends cultures from the Hellenistic era to the Ottoman Empire and modern day. The city is particularly renowned for its preserved medieval heritage, which stands stoically against the sleepy harbourside in the form of the exquisite Palace of the Grand Master’s of the Knights of Rhodes.

Ialyssos — Five miles west of Rhodes you can find an idyllic exemplar of Greek life. Gentle but active, the town’s location on one of the windier coasts of Rhodes makes Ialyssos a particularly good spot to try your hand at windsurfing or kitesurfing.

Faliraki — The best known resort in Rhodes attracts many tourists to its excellent array of cafes, tavernas and bars, as well as its water park, thriving beaches and buzzing nightlife.

Afandou — Afandou is home to the longest beach on Rhodes Island, giving this small but welcoming village a reputation that exceeds its small size. It may be quieter than areas like Faliraki but sport lovers should note that it is home to the island’s only golf course.

Things to See in Rhodes

Get a feel for the island’s classical history with a visit to the crumbling remains of the Acropolis of Rhodes. Though in ruin, the amphitheatre, stoic temples and impressive stadium offer a tantalising taste of the island’s former glory. Also worth a trip is the Acropolis of Lindos, which boasts magnificent unbroken views across glistening harbours and the sun-specked coastline of the Aegean. Or why not turn the world upside down with an underwater safari day tour? With optional scuba diving, feel as though you’re flying as you discover the riches of the marine world beneath the waves.

Things to Do in Rhodes Island

Get your fill of the local culture with a private shore excursion of Filerimos and the old city of Ialyssos. Afterwards, try the local cuisine at one of the countless excellent restaurants and eateries in Rhodes and Faliraki. However, perhaps you’ll find the local dining is at its most authentic with a traditional dinner package, complete with live Greek music and dancing.
