Lombok Attractions

Situated in the heavenly blue waters of the Indian Ocean, the island of Lombok is one of Indonesia’s fastest growing tourist destinations. Less well known than the nearby island of Bali, Lombok has a rugged, arid landscape, and is surrounded by smaller, fertile islands, offering a range of things to do. Discover the marine life, lie back on untarnished sandy beaches, head on a trek through the rainforest to the active volcano Mount Rinjani, or simply explore Lombok’s many temples and villages.

Areas & Neighbourhoods in Lombok

Mataram — The largest city on Lombok, the port of Mataram has many beaches and is home to the mystical 18th century water palace, Mayura Garden. Also nearby is Narmada Park. Beautifully landscaped, the park homes an exquisite Hindu Temple and a fountain of youth, which is said to grant long life to all who drink from it.

Gili Islands — The three small Gili Islands to the northwest of Lombok house a number of small resorts with beach huts, gentle waves lapping at sandy shores and divine diving on the wildlife-rich coral reef. Cars are banned here, ensuring that the Gili Islands remain as unscathed and remote as they always have been.

Senggigi — Lombok’s main tourist resort, Senggigi is the ideal spot for a day of sun, sea, surf and sand, with all the amenities you could need. For a break from the beach, head to the nearby Hindu temple of Pura Batu Bolong. Teetering on the water’s rocky edge, the sunset from here is quite breathtaking.

Mount Rinjani — The jewel in Lombok’s crown, magnificent Mount Rinjani is an active volcano. Complete with a crater lake and blanketed by rainforests, Rinjani offers hiking routes for many different experience levels. An experienced guide is strongly recommended however, especially for those looking to explore the rim of the volcano’s caldera.
