The O2 Arena is an award-winning complex that hosts many types of events, such as sports and music. It has a seating capacity of about 20,000 and has held the title as the busiest arena in the world with more than 2 million ticket sales in a calendar year. It was designed with excellent acoustics to prevent echoing.
Capture photos of the iconic dome from the outside. Due to its location on the bend of a river, it is easily visible from many parts of the city. It has been used in many movies about London.
Admire the spacious arena from the inside. It has a circumference of around 0.6 miles (1 kilometre) and a height of 164 feet (50 metres). O2 is the second largest arena in Europe.
Walk down Entertainment Avenue inside the complex. Browse the shops and dine in restaurants that serve everything from snacks to three-course meals. There are many bars selling alcoholic beverages. You can also go dancing at a nightclub, see a movie at a cinema or go bowling.
The complex takes its name from a telephone company that sponsors the structure. In 2000, the giant dome was built to host the Millennium Experience, a year-long exhibition to celebrate the new millennium. After the event, the dome fell into disuse until it was inaugurated as The O2 in 2007.
The O2 Arena is based in the Greenwich area by the River Thames, east of the city ofLondon. It sits on the inside of a sharp bend of the river so it is almost entirely surrounded by water.
The arena opens in the morning and closes after midnight on event days. There are 2,200 parking spaces for visitors, which fill up quickly. North Greenwich Station on the Jubilee Line of the London Underground serves the attraction. You can also try other forms of transportation, such as the cable car across the river or the River Bus.
The venue is open on non-event days. Purchase tickets in advance online or at the arena to see a show.
