However, the place needs a really good clean - staircase carpets filthy, laundry lying around, corridor cluttered. Only 1 staff at breakfast - supplies lacking and empty. "Lovely place to stay, great staff, very good good"

"Great staff and a very warm, friendly and efficient check-in. A great touch, much appreciated, was a table was booked for me incase I wanted to dine in. My room was in a small annex to the Blacksmith Arms. It is generously termed by estate agents as cosy. The bathroom was far larger and included a bath and separate shower. All was clean with a generous application of bleach. The room was very quiet except for the occasional screech of either pheasant or peacock. I couldn't make my mind up which....

"The Bowes Hotel is a lovely hotel and pub in a small village near Hadrian's Wall. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was clean, fresh, and renovated within last 5 years. My friend stated if she could pack the bathroom in her suitcase and take it home she would! And, we had a lovely view of their garden. Would definitely stay there again. "
