Things to See in Delft
Delft is the home to Johannes Vermeer, the famous Dutch painter. Here you’ll find the Vermeer Center Delft, located in the historical location of the Saint Lucas Guild (painters guild) on the Voldersgracht. The Vermeer Center Delft offers a walk through the life, city and works of Vermeer.
Delft also has many ties with the Dutch royal family. In the New Church you can find the final resting place of many members of the royal family. In a more sinister story, William of Orange was murdered on the stairs of the Prinsenhof (Princes’ Court) in 1584 you can still see two bullet holes from unfortunate shooting.
One of the Netherland’s most important export products is delftware. Visit the Royal Delft and be blown away by the journey through the present, past and future of the age-old earthenware.
