"Lovely welcome on arrival. Rooms were dark inside which was fine for us but could imagine it might be a problem for some. Vanity mirror with lights attached didnt work, and when reported (more to report that we didnt break it, rather than get it fixed) reception was uninterested. Brilliant shower - possibly the best ive used in a hotel. No coffee machine as described but there was a kettle. When we went to get a drink on the rooftop we were welcomed in but not told that last orders was imminent...

"Building and rooms a little tired. No air conditioning and when asked receiption about the loud banging noise in the air circulation unit was just told to turn it off! Room didn’t have the water that should have been provided as part of the room, however when questioned this was provided without question. Cleaner never came but again reception sorted for us. "Check-in was OK but had to wait a while as there was a queue and only one member of staff on duty, so suggest more reception staff needed to avoid delays checking in. Room 816 was good but sorry to report several carpet stains were very visible. Tissues in the bathroom had not been checked as only two left in the box. All staff at reception and the restaurant were very customer focused polite and friendly."

The food (albeit more on the expensive side) is delicious and fresh. Room service is available or dine in restaurant options. Most rooms (if not all) come with a shower and bath, with The White Company toiletries for use during the stay. "Really great stay. We love the hotel indigo in York having stayed there a few times in the past. We weren't disappointed this time and everything was perfect. The staff were lovely and the room really nice. Rachel also arranged for us to have the romance package as it was our 30th wedding anniversary. Couldn't have asked for more. "

The room was spacious but showing some signs of the age and maintenance burden of such a large old , but nothing too obvious. The lift was a wonder - long waits at busy times, 2 people plus luggage and sounding like a dumb waiter. It was not clear why the HP sauce bottles at breakfast were only available on request - is there a shortage?"
