Tourist Guide
Brodsworth Hall featuring a park, a fountain and flowers
Markets, churches and museums feature in the center of this town, with a wildlife zoo and enchanting villages in the outskirts. Make a family trip to rural estates and parks.

Shops and historic buildings line the main street of Doncaster, in the midst of South Yorkshire’s verdant sprawl. Embellishing the enclosing countryside are quaint hamlets with majestic halls and castles. Visit the museums to learn of the Roman era, medieval history and industrial revolution that helped shape the town.

The most iconic and impressive sight is Doncaster Minster, recognizable by its Gothic tower and rose windows. Tour the interior of this 19th-century church to see its stained-glass windows and organ. For a better understanding of the city’s history, visit nearby Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery. Learn of the pottery industry’s impact and see artifacts from the Roman era.

Participate in the British custom of afternoon tea in the resplendent setting of Mansion House. Make your way to the southeastern peripheries of the town for Yorkshire Wildlife Park. This vast zoo has a shopping area and many children’s play areas to complement the lions, tigers and polar bears living here. Take your kids ice-skating at Doncaster Dome and browse stores in Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping.

Venture into the countryside for its villages and manor houses. Brodsworth Hall remains much as it was in the 1860s, allowing a peek into Victorian life. Bring your kids to the playground in the gardens and listen to live brass bands in summer.

A little south is Conisbrough, where you’ll encounter the Conisbrough Castle. Climb steps spiraling around the circular keep and enjoy views of bucolic South Yorkshire from the summit. Head back toward Doncaster for Cusworth Hall, with lakes and nature trails to delight the whole family.

The town is a little northeast of Sheffield in South Yorkshire. Fly to Doncaster Sheffield Airport or Leeds Bradford Airport. You can also arrive by train from London or other cities across England. Get around the town by bus.

Surrounded by South Yorkshire’s majestic countryside, Doncaster offers an insight into the area’s industrial origins and Roman past.

Lots of good stuff to do around Doncaster so it's a good base away from expensive places to stay if you're willing to drive.

We live in Doncaster & the place we stayed was about a half hour from the centre. It was supposed to be a treat, a night away but it was not that. This does not reflect on Doncaster as a whole in comparison to other places we have stayed for the same
